What Nintendo Needs To Do Right With The NX

Added: 27.09.2016 11:43 | 0 views | 0 comments

Owning a current Nintendo console gives you a great library of games. The New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Splatoon, The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and more. Your 3DS lets you play Pokémon X and Y, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Fire Emblem: Fates, Bravely Default and countless others. While all these games are great, they are a small section for two major consoles. With the NX imminent, Nintendo need to consider what they need to add to their console and here are a few suggestions.
Third party support has long been Nintendo's weakness. Developers have found it difficult working on the systems, there's a lack of interest to develop for them or people prefer to play multi-platform games elsewhere. It's essential that Nintendo get develops interested as this was the main weakness of the Wii U. While there was some early games such as Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect, Rayman, Shovel Knight and Minecraft, it would be sorely lacking. It had great third party exclusives from Platinum in the forms of Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101 but it will need popular franchises to get causal attention, such as Resident Evil, Battlefield, Overwatch and the like but getting big exclusives from third part games will push its credibility forward. Platinum have had a continued relationship with the company and reaching out to other places such as Capcom, Blizzard, FromSoftware or Square-Enix could be a huge boost.
Nintendo has long been seen as a more causal option for gamers and this isn't something it should shun. Making a console more accessible creates more players, which makes more money. Nintendo can then invest this extra revenue on new properties or working with other firms for hardcore gamers. With the NX's proposed home console/handheld hybrid, this is more of a case. Adding simple, easy to play games for different audiences would be a great boon. Affordable puzzle games can capture the imagination of everyone, so a few things like Tetris could keep people interested. A live casino game could also be a thing worth looking at. Adding found at Coral allows adults to play live casino games at home or on the go, which will draw in a new audience. Apps such as YouTube, BBC iPlayer should be auto included, and adding streaming services such as Amazon prime and Netflix will bring in more casual players.
The other thing the NX needs to bring is a back catalogue. In the last two console generations, Sony have irked fans by not being backwards compatible. It's unsure if the NX will be able to play Wii or Wii U games due to lack of the specific controllers, the touchpad, etc. so it should make sure it's virtual library is up to snuff. The Virtual Console has always had on it, so if this carries over, players will already have a great range of games available. Adding new things, such as more of the classic Pokémon games will be necessary and any popular Wii or Wii games will be very much appreciated.
It's hard to say what's in store for Nintendo and the NX, so we'll just have to sit back, wait and get ready to game.
