Windows 10 Mobile's 'hidden' landscape UI

Added: 12.12.2017 7:40 | 0 views | 0 comments

Now, don't get too excited, I haven't found a hack to get the Start screen to work in landscape mode (though this was planned at one point by Microsoft) - but I've made some pleasing discoveries with some built-in and third party applications. Which is as expected, really - if Windows 10 Mobile can expand and re-arrange its screen output for a large Continuum display then we should expect some sense of that when our phones are rotated and their (horizontal) screen size suddenly doubles.

Microsoft Surface Book 2 review: a powerful yet pricey laptop-tablet combo

Added: 12.12.2017 7:00 | 0 views | 0 comments

With prices starting at £1500, this isn’t a casual purchase – but with its detachable screen, this could be the best Windows 10 power-user laptop going
The was a feat of engineering that took Microsoft’s Surface tablet PC and turned it on its head, making it a laptop first and a tablet second. The Surface Book 2 refines a few things, adds much more power and finally adopts USB-C.
If you’re primarily a laptop user, who occasionally wants to take just the screen with you and needs some brawn for your processing duties, the Surface Book 2 is the machine for you. But getting your head around what the machine can do is the first challenge.

Festive update for Royal Bank of Scotland UWP

Added: 11.12.2017 11:57 | 0 views | 0 comments

Available for both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile, I've heard good things about the latter recently. And, heading for the Store even though I'm not a RBS customer, I did note that the Windows 10 UWP application was showing a festive changelog. So, as nothing more than a shout-out on AAWP (though comments from customers are welcome below), here's the official RBS application - they at least are staying faithful to Windows 10 Mobile, it seems.

Mini-review: Fallensouls2: Eternal War UWP

Added: 11.12.2017 7:29 | 0 views | 0 comments

The UWP games keep on coming for Windows 10 as a whole and (here) Windows 10 Mobile in particular, though this combat RPG is a bit of a snore-fest unless you're really, really into swords, sorcery and intricate number-based turn by turn combat. Oh, and you know what happens with the numbers decline? You have to start dipping into your wallet for some in-app-purchases - this is yet another cash-in freemium title, so exercise caution.

Mini-review: Legend of the Skyfish UWP

Added: 09.12.2017 13:38 | 1 views | 0 comments

Part puzzle, part arcade, but mainly the former, since there's no absolute time pressure on any level, Legend of the Skyfish is a UWP game for Windows 10 that I only became aware of recently - and it's rather good. It's also rather frustrating when you get stuck on a puzzle and with no hint mechanism to help!

The best of the best: My Top 12 third party UWP apps for Windows 10 Mobile

Added: 09.12.2017 2:54 | 2 views | 0 comments

Utterly subjective, of course. We're all different, but hopefully this top 12 will give you a starting point if you're too pushed for time to browse through AAWP's comprehensive directories of and . Admittedly, those lists include software for both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile, while the list below is UWP all the way, i.e. dedicated applications for Windows 10 (across all form factors).

Todoist UWP brings multi-person, multi-project action to Windows 10

Added: 09.12.2017 2:54 | 1 views | 0 comments

'To do' applications remain popular in the computing world - especially when they have bells and whistles. Todoist is one of the biggest and best - and they now have a UWP application for Windows 10, see below for some details and links. Around the AAWP office, we use Asana instead, but this seems to cover much the same multi-person to-do bases.

ProBeat: Windows 10 on ARM is exciting for all PC users, even if Always Connected PCs aren’t

Added: 08.12.2017 18:30 | 2 views | 0 comments

Microsoft announced massive Windows 10 news this week, arguably the biggest since the operating system debuted over two years ago: Windows 10 on ARM. Three big features come with that: the screen turns on "instantly" unlike existing PCs, LTE is built right in, and the battery can last for days. But the unveiling comes with [...]
